Apple Sues Amazon!
The two big ‘A’s of the corporate world have now come in for a fight. Apple sued Amazon on March 18th when they filed a court complaint against Amazon for wrongfully using their term ‘AppStore’. The lawsuit which was filed in a California federal court last week, said “Amazon has improperly used Apple’s App store mark to solicit software developers throughout the United States.”
Amazon was just about to launch their ‘Amazon AppStore’ when the lawsuit hit them like icy water. The Amazon AppStore was supposed to be catering the needs of developers and users of the android phones. There was a clash between Apple and Microsoft recently and they too were sued for using the word app store for their own product.
Apple is a huge company which has been trying very hard to stay on top of the application market. Applications are a necessity for one and all and Apple has the right to claim their own work. Amazon did have some rights with Apple but it is not yet clear if the usage of the term ‘AppStore’ was in that agreement.
“We’ve asked Amazon not to copy the App Store name because it will confuse and mislead customers,” said Kristin Huguet, a spokeswoman for Apple.
