Foursquares gets record signups after the launch of Facebook placesfoursquares gets record signups A
On this Thursday, facebook launched a location based service for their customers which is pretty much similar to foursquare. On the day of launch, their competitor Foursquare got a major exposure and recorded most number of signups ever in a day for their company. Facebook places has brought checkin and location broadcasting to their 500 million users which is the pure essence or description of Foursquare. What happened after that is instead of major number of signups for facebook, we saw record number of signups for their competitor, which means that the new service which facebook is now providing has a really well-established rival, who know more about what they do than anyone else. The record signup was the result of all the promotion and comparison articles between facebook and foursquare. Both of the services were compared in several articles and it looks like people “liked” foursquare more than facebook. In a latest tweet from Dennis Crowley – CEO of foursquare, he says that its been the “greatest day ever” in the history of the company as they have witnessed the greatest number of sign ups in a day. He also said that facebook and twitter are two separate services, and can’t be compared with each other on a similar ground. Here’s a snapshot of his tweet: Dennis Crowley Tweet Though this surge in signups is no doubt a good sign for foursquare, but it doesn’t means that they are now above facebook. The most reasonable explanation for this is that people are finding foursquare more attractive and better than facebook when it comes to location based services, probably because it started the service way early than facebook. Foursquare has nearly three million users as compared to more than 500 million facebook users, but still they have proven to be better than anyone at what they do. Lets see how facebook plans to tackle this situation and bring more traffic to their social network.
