Apple has launched Genius – the music discovery search engine for iTunes but this time its taking on iPad applications recommendation based on your interest rather than the music. Though Apple has not yet officially announced the launch of Genius for iPad, some of the users got this option somehow on their iPad. Later, an unofficial statement has also come from Apple that confirms the launch of this service for iPad users. Like the iTunes, “Genius” option is located just next to the “Updates” tab in App store. Simply tap on it and agree with their terms and condition when using it for the first time. Then the app will show you recommended apps based on your download history. You will be shown a list with short description of several iPad applications. Like “Genius” for iTunes, this is also a recommendation engine, but instead for music it deals with applications. The feature will browse through all the applications downloaded from the app store from your account and make recommendations accordingly. If you don’t like any application or don’t want “Genius” to recommend it again, simply hit “Not Interested” and that app will then disappear from the recommendation list. Along with the recommendation stuff, it also has the “iPad Upgrades” option that will list the iPad version of your installed iPhone applications. This “Genius” feature might look small but in fact its of great help if used properly. The Apple app store now features more than 250,000 applications in their store and no one can go through the details of each and every app they offer, download it and try it out, because that would be ridiculous. A better way to dig out the best apps from there would be either through online reviews, or recommendations from something like “Genius”. Lets wait for the official release so that this feature becomes available for all iPad users. Then we’ll see how it turns out.
