Opera showed its plan to develop a web browser for iPhone and iPod touch. The were working on this [roject for quite a while now and finally, they submitted it to the app store last month. The app was pending approval from the authorities at Apple, and the good news for Opera fans is that it has been approved and now its topping the app store. The initial response from Apple was something like “Bring it ON” but now they seem to have tasted the bitter fact that Safari hasn’t proved to be very good for iPhone and iPod touch users. Its popularity among the user shows that they were desperately waiting for an app that could replace their default browser. Few days ago, the Opera Mini 5 app for iPhone and iPod touch has topped the Apple app store from every country, adding more users to its already vital community of 50 Million people worldwide. Opera uses its own various technologies to improve the user experience on other end. Currently, they use their own servers mounted with heavy hardware that renders and compresses the webpage which user has requested, according to the needs of Opera Mini 5. The impact of this is pretty good on the user end. The iPhone and iPod touch users who have experienced this app have reported a faster and more pleasent browsing experience, especially on 2G cellular networks. Its only a matter of time before we see chrome and firefox app on the App store, though the respective companies haven’t shown any interest so far in doing so. Lets see if they are also planning to take a ride in the mobile app bus and enter the competition.
