Google has updated their Google Earth application for your Android mobile platform and now it supports submarine exploration, like the standard version. In a recent long blog post from Google on their official blog about this application, they have revealed that the new update for Google Earth on Android platform would allow experience of the submarine world and lot more. The new version of Google Earth for Android is 1.1 and it offers several exciting features, including the one that allows you to go underwater and explore that World right from your Android phone. It also shows terrestrial spaces of our planet in a neat and beautiful way. This Underwater thing for Google Earth is not new. It was introduced last year for their normal desktop application that allowed the user to dive in the depth of mysterious ocean and explore that world the way they want to. Google has also announced that it has plans to make partnerships with organization like National Geographic to take their project to the next level by creating Street Views for the seas. Besides National Geographic, Google also made a partnership this year with a company Ocean Showcase that uses Google Earth application to highlight water sports like Surfing along with shipwreck, marine research and more.
“For example,” writes Google product manager Jenifer Austin Foulkes, “check out the landscape and terrain in Monterery Bay Canyon, which is larger than the Grand Canyon, by zooming in on Google Earth below the ocean surface just off the coast. Once underwater, you can use the ‘look around’ button to tilt the view and see the extent of this great undersea canyon.”
The 1.1 version of Google Earth for Android offers “Explore the Ocean” layer that displays hundreds of exciting images and videos from the content partners of Google. For those users who are using Froyo (Android 2.2) on their Android handset, they will have the option to play embedded flash videos from within the application. For most of the other Android devices, they will have the option to use two fingers to swing around the Earth and explore underwater mountains and canyons using the Google Earth’s “look around” feature.
